Chicagoans are known for sticking to their neighborhoods like Donald Trump to a certain Miss USA.
Which is to say: Blind loyalty isn’t necessarily a good thing.
So start playing the field in Rogers Park. Viet Bistro and Lounge, the newest venture from husband and wife team Dan and Kim Nguyen (Pasteur), will ease you out of your comfort zone.
Exposed air ducts, brick walls, dark wood floors, and high ceilings provide ambiance. First-date jitters? Pick a cushy orange couch in the bar, grab a drink, and nibble apps from the late-night menu till 2 a.m. (considering it goes well). Or dive in headfirst at the restaurant, with modern Asian fare like the lobster roll with tamarind sauce, fresh seafood udon noodle soup, and inspirations from chef Dan’s visits to the Argyle markets.
Who knows? You may find that venturing outside your hood is the quickest way to a good meal.
And doesn’t that trump everything?
