This Is How We Doux It

You’re addicted to Hollywood gossip: When in L.A., Lindsay Lohan’s crazy for the Chateau Marmont’s curry chicken! (To ensure the resto had her favorite dish, LiLo called ahead ten times.)

It’s true. We heard it straight from chef Mohammad Islam himself.

Islam met Malika Ameen while working at Chicago’s Ritz, and the pair moved to Hollywood to cook for the likes of Lohan. Now they’re back in the Midwest with Aigre Doux Restaurant & Bakery, serving up contemporary cuisine for regular folks.

Like the name implies (aigre and doux mean sour and sweet in French), contrast is the theme. Executive chef Islam whips up savories like the Niman Ranch burger on a brioche bun and slow-baked salmon with citrus emulsion. Pastry chef Ameen heads up the adjacent bakery, focusing on sweets like passion fruit lavender cookies and apple bread pudding with butterscotch.

It’s certain to become an addiction.

Though it will probably never rival your hunger for celebrity dish.
