Tomorrow night, in the historic Blackstone Hotel, a topless restaurant will open. Yes, a topless establishment, right in the — oh, sorry, that’s tapas, not topless. We repeat, tapas. (Please don’t fire us.)
For flavorful food without a parental advisory warning, hit Mercat a la Planxa, a new Southside spot serving Catalan tapas on the grill.
Manning the barbie is Chicago native and executive chef Jose Garces, firing up more than twenty dishes (lobster, turbot, chipirones, Black Angus filet mignon), plus small plates — veggies, pastas, flatbreads, cheeses, cured meats — for sharing. There’s also a suckling pig for four, 40 Spanish wines, and seasonal sangrias.
The fuchsia and green space resembles a bustling Barcelona neighborhood, replete with an open kitchen and communal tables. Giant windows give incredible views of Grant Park and Lake Michigan.
Now that’s what we call newsworthy.
