Surf’s Up

L2O Restaurant Opens

take a seat!

Gras adj. French word for fat. (Bébé, tu es très gras.)

Gras n. Phat French chef. (Laurent Gras is phat, yo.)

The language of food is universal. Taste for yourself at L2O (el-two-oh), a new seafood restaurant opening today in Ambria’s old home. Chef Laurent Gras (Peacock Alley, New York; Fifth Floor, San Francisco) and Richard Melman (Lettuce Entertain You) have created a spot that’s impeccably serene.

Feast your eyes on dark wood columns and a Bukiety flower installation. Then, simply feast: Go a la carte in the deco-style lounge, private (and shoeless) in the tatami room (opening soon), or have the prix fixe menu in the main dining area.

A peek at what’s on the menu: lobster (Tahitian vanilla, chanterelle, watermelon radish), white king salmon (pea, chorizo bouillon), and Santa Barbara shrimp (red pepper, raspberry, cucumber).

There’s also caviar and perfect souffles.

Translation: mmm.

L2O, 2300 North Lincoln Park West, at Belden Avenue (773-868-0002 or l2orestaurant.com).
