Matthew Woodson’s print shop, Ghostco, is aptly named.
The School of the Art Institute grad is more than mysterious. According to his bio, he grew up in Indiana, lives in Chicago, and has a fascination with taxidermy.
But we’re not interested in his personal life. It’s his art we’re after.
The illustrative wunderkind creates comic book-style line drawings with dark, melancholic undertones. Working with quill and ink and a smattering of Photoshop, Woodson makes prints that depict humans, nature, and animals, using a mostly muted color scheme.
In “Every Blossom on Every Stem,” a girl’s mouth is covered with flowers, and bees buzz around her. “Summer Make Good” pictures miles of fields, mountains, and homes. “You’ll Never Be Strong Enough” shows a woman holding a spool between her fingers, suggesting a double entendre.
No face time with Woodson? No biggie.
His art speaks for itself.
