Chicago Police Blotter
Wanted: Local designer Veronica Sheaffer and business associate Taryn Parker.
Crime: Creating clothes to kill for. Influenced by such actresses as Eva Marie Saint in North by Northwest, the duo restructures vintage silhouettes into wearable, modern garb for their line, Coco Irene.
Weapons used: Sheaffer is a madwoman with a sewing machine. This fall, she’s focused on textures — a rich sweater knit for the cowl-neck dress, crisp denim for the short-sleeve mini, a silky blouse with a sophisticated tie front.
Be on the lookout for: long-sleeve, heavy-knit dresses; hooded caplets with bell sleeves; limited-edition tunics in vintage fabrics. Approach with caution; all are impeccably constructed and easily steamed.
Accessories to the crime: A multiple offender, Sheaffer also designs bags and retro bridal gowns.
Catch them if you can.
Available at the Holiday Shopping Jubilee, tomorrow, 6-9 p.m., at the Theatre Building Chicago, 1225 West Belmont Avenue, between Lakewood and Racine Avenues; online at cocoirene.com.
