Sweet and Downtown

Sugar Bliss Cake Boutique Opens

Trend you abhor: ironic mustaches.

Trend you adore: cupcakes.

Praise the craze at Sugar Bliss Cake Boutique, the Loop’s latest sweet stop. Owner Teresa Ging attended Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and then spent a year testing and perfecting her recipes.

The desserts are baked from scratch daily using specialty ingredients like European cocoa, pure Madagascar bourbon vanilla, and fresh strawberries and carrots. Each is topped with a bloom of creamy frosting. (Sweet treat: The frosting is also sold separately in shot form.)

Cake flavors include chocolate cappuccino, lemon drop, and Texas red velvet, plus fruity breakfast varieties (blueberry vanilla, cranberry orange, apple cinnamon) sold only in the a.m. Ging also does catering and delivery throughout the city and select burbs.

As for calories per treat?

They say ignorance is bliss.

Sugar Bliss Cake Boutique, 115 North Wabash Avenue, between Washington and Randolph Streets (312-845-9669 or sugarblisscakes.com).
