For Mary Janacek, baking was in the cards.

Born and bred in The Lonestar State, Janacek spent her childhood measuring, mixing, and taste-testing with her mom. Years later, she honed her skills as a baker at Auntie Em’s in Los Angeles.

Today, the Chicago transplant and stay-at-home mom has a full house: her first baby, Harper, and her second, Buttermilk Bakeshop.

Janacek’s kitchen brims with the preservative-free ingredients she uses to bake seasonal fruit pies, black bottom cupcakes, Guinness cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, Texas sheet cake, Beer’s Best Friend cookies (chocolate chip and pecan cookie with a pretzel baked into the top), homemade Oreos, salted-pistachio Mexican wedding cookies, and the oh-so-tasty These Brownies Love You.
