Flour Power

Birchwood Kitchen Opens

Yo, bread head. Yeah, you with the tie-dyed sandwich board.

Check out Birchwood Kitchen, Wicker Park’s totally wheat new digs.

Daniel Sirko (Pastoral) and Judd Murphy, the foodies behind this gnarly artisanal spot, specialize in handmade mozzarella, fresh baked breads and pastries, house-roasted meats, and delicious seasonal sandwiches.

We’re stoked on the club (house-roasted turkey breast, smoked bacon, roasted tomato jam), mushroom (roasted mushrooms, piquillo pepper, grilled sourdough), lamb (lamb French dip, pickled onions, toasted baguette), and the vegan-friendly veggie (spiced cashew butter, sprouts, cucumbers). You can even design your own and add salads, soups, and sides. Weekend brunch includes a croque madame and a breakfast salad with roasted red potatoes, poached eggs, and bacon, topped with a truffle vinaigrette.

Chow inside amid badass exposed brick, church pews, and refurbished furniture or on the outdoor patio.

Rye-ght on.

Birchwood Kitchen, 2211 West North Avenue, between Leavitt Street and Bell Avenue (773-276-2100).
