Patty-cake, patty-cake, baker’s man, take us to Smash Cake as fast as you can.
The new cafe/bakery from Michelle Garcia of Bleeding Heart Bakery teems with tarts, chocolates, croissants, breads, and more. But kiddos really get their due with story hours and cookie and cupcake decorating sessions on weekends.
The staff does a sweet job for birthdays: Custom cakes can be whipped up with two days’ notice, and the entire place can be rented for private parties.
All items on the menu are made with organic ingredients; vegan and gluten-free options are available, too.
It’s just what you knead.
Smash Cake, 2961 North Lincoln Avenue, between George Street and Wellington Avenue (773-281-2353 or smashcakechicago.com).
