Sweet Surrender

Baked Goods from Sweet Miss Giving's

You savor giving back.

But the road to finding the right cause can be sour.

Don’t get salty. Check out Sweet Miss Giving’s, a bakery with a higher purpose. The not-for-profit employs the homeless and disabled to mix and bake scrumptious scones, cupcakes, and muffins.

Trained pastry chefs create the made-from-scratch recipes. Then the crew gets to work, cranking out indulgences like pecan bars with shortbread crust, Morning Glory muffins packed with eight different fruits and seeds, roasted pear and ginger scones, and more.

Fifty-one percent of SMG’s profits goes to Chicago House, an organization providing housing for people with HIV and AIDS.

Can’t be bitter about that.

Available at Green Grocer, 1402 West Grand Avenue, at Noble Street (312-624-9508 or greengrocerchicago.com). For more information, go to sweetmissgivings.com.
