Staying home with a newborn can make you stir crazy.
Your options: Put your head in the oven. Or make a cake in one.
Jennifer Kane chose the latter. After hauling westward with child, the former Peninsula New York pastry chef needed a change of the nondiaper variety. So she baked. Today, Kane and her husband, Eric (Ritz-Carlton Chicago pastry chef), debut Bake, a homey hangout in Wicker Park.
The pastry case spills with classic Americana sweets: blueberry streusel muffins, jumbo strawberry jam-filled scones, pies, tarts, cakes by the slice and whole, coconut macaroons, mix ’n’ match cupcakes (vanilla, chocolate, coconut cake; vanilla bean, peanut butter icing), and more.
Metropolis Coffee and free Wi-Fi will be available, too.
Potty on.
