You think all the hotness happens hurrr? Your country grammar’s whack. Check out what’s up down thurrr. Don’t follow? It’s the Lou, y’all. A tad shy of five hours in the whip, and you’ll be coastin’. Peace.

Bring out the child in you at one of St. Louis’s coolest spots: City Museum, a 600,000-square-foot space made from found materials. From caves to ball pits to the world’s largest pencil (76 feet, if you must know), CM’s got it all. Established in 1913, family-owned Crown Candy Kitchen is a sweet tooth’s dream, replete with soda fountain, retro candies, and jukebox.
Make like a Tourist
Meandering through Forest Park is a must. Five hundred acres bigger than Central Park (really), it’s got rolling hills, a boathouse, an adorable cafe, and miles of quiet. Next up: The Gateway Arch. You don’t have to ride it, but you’ve gotta peep it. Cap it off with a concrete from Ted Drewes, the creamiest frozen custard in the country.
Make like a Foodie
Start the day at Kaldi’s Coffeehouse with a cup of unreal java, then sit in Concordia Park and chill. Located next to beloved restaurant Niche (cheffed by James Beard-nominated Gerard Craft) is Taste by Niche, an itsy gem with seating for fewer than twenty (1831 Sidney Street; 314-773-7755). Round off your visit at World’s Fair Doughnuts, a shack that churns out piping-hot donuts and 80-cent joe (1904 South Vandeventer Avenue; 314-776-9975).
Make like a Nester
Located in the heart of The Loop, Moonrise Hotel is a new agey, sleek spot with sweet rooms, Eclipse restaurant, and that fine Midwestern vibe. If you want a smaller option, check out Dwell 912, a bed-and-breakfast with a self-serve kitchen, local art, and tons of charm.
Make like a Crooner
St. Louis is known for its tunes. Chuck Berry performs monthly at Blueberry Hill (can you believe it?!). Fox Hole in the Atomic Cowboy has everything from burlesque to hip-hop to rock ’n’ roll. Jazz at the Bistro, a concert series hosted by nonprofit Jazz St. Louis, hosts national and international jazz artists.
