Your mom really gets you fired up.
Sofia Masri sympathizes. She and her mama, Raquel, are both potters, and working with heat is their everyday. In a shared Highland Park studio, the two shape, sculpt, and glaze one-of-a-kind creations.
Taking cues from her fashion and art background, Sofia crafts porcelain earrings from antique button molds. After a week of drying, she adds colored glazes (blood orange, lime green, periwinkle) and intricate designs like seashells, flowers, and honeycombs.
Raquel’s specialty is housewares. Her charming dishes, platters, and serving trays are handmade (without the use of a wheel), constructed by pressing antique lace doilies into wet clay. After embossing (mannequin dresses, medallions), she finishes with a vintagey ivory glaze.
Holy mother.
