Now that good times are coming back, celebrate your gains with a cookie from Hey Sugar, a new business from finance worker bee-turned-baker Michelle Olszewski. When the going got tough, Olszewski got baking, riffing on family recipes and coming up with remarkably tasty combos; her Strawlemon creation, based on her mom’s strawberry lemonade, won her an award from Pastry Chicago.
Today she’s at it full force in Kitchen Chicago, enlisting her boyfriend, friends, and grandma when things get crazy. Quality ingredients (Spice House vanilla, Callebaut chocolate, natural fruit) and natural ability result in some seriously inventive treats.
Flavors include chocolate chip with walnuts, PC Toasties (heavenly pineapple-coconut macaroons), Choc3 (triple chocolate), and the aforementioned Strawlemon, with more on the way. The cookies ship nationally, but the cupcakes (her other specialty) stay local. Lucky us.
