Having a new baby is like going underground. Limited communication with the outside world. Lack of direct sunlight. The ability to go days without showering and barely notice the scent.
But Lincoln Park’s Galt Baby store will force you out of hiding. The mini empire’s third location (following Michigan Avenue and Northbrook) is a new parent emporium stocked with modern baby gear. There are twenty-plus stroller brands, from a Maclaren umbrella ($130) to a Silvercross pram ($4,000), to test-drive on a walk around the block. Choose from ten brands of car seats, including Britax and Recaro ($100-$399), ready to be installed by an in-house certified car seat installer.
Aisles are packed with developmental playthings (starting at $4) like Wee Gallery flash cards and Kid O puzzles. An onsite service center tops things off; stroller repairs and tune-ups are free if you’ve purchased from Galt, otherwise nominal charges apply.
And though the furniture and bedding selection is still filling in (goods by DwellStudio and Oeuf just arrived), you can find necessities like Medela breast pumps ready to go.
The only thing missing? Clothing, but we trust you already have enough to go around.
