You display so many family photos that your house looks like a Hallmark store collided with an episode of Hoarders.
Clean up the scene with Smallish custom portraits. Self-taught local artist Jill Stalowicz’s pencil-drawn lovelies clock in at a compact five by seven inches. And though they don’t take up much space, their intricate details (hello, dimples and eye twinkles) command big attention.
The commission process is simple: Via phone, e-mail, or a personal meeting, you and Stalowicz choose a photo on which to base the portrait. Within a few weeks, she produces the artwork, which can be tweaked until you’re happy. It’s shipped out on white archival paper or can be framed.
At $395, these mementos don’t come cheap. But prints priced at $75 (after the original purchase) make great gifts — ensuring every doting relative gets the picture.
