Rent a Blueberry Bush for the Summer

Joe's Blues Blueberries

joe's blues pick your own blueberry bush!

Does paying rent make you want to sucker punch your landlord?

Don’t turn blue. Make renting fun — and fruitful. For just $30, you can lease a blueberry bush at Moss Funnel Farms in Bangor, Michigan (between Kalamazoo and South Haven), with a whopping twelve-pound berry guarantee.

Owned by Joe Corrado, the quaint family farm is home to 1,400 60-year-old Jersey highbush blueberry plants, some arching up to seven feet tall. Due to a warm and rainy May, the extra-full bushes will be ready to pick by July 20 (bonus: Corrado’s commitment to chemical-free fertilization).

The family invites you to harvest the berries yourself. But if you don’t like getting your hands dirty (or don’t have time for a mini road trip), Corrado will happily ship them to you.

Use the small, sweet blues for baking and snacking, then freeze or jam the extra. Call it the fruit of your labor.
