You’re this close to creating your own Mad Men persona (pencil skirt, sexist boyfriend). Now all you need is a place to drink.
And here it is. From The Gage’s Billy Lawless and chef Dirk Flanigan comes Henri, a restaurant and watering hole opening tomorrow that feels like a well-designed set: velvet-sheathed walls, lush silks, and a bar that seats six.
But we’re here to talk about alcohol. In addition to a pristine list of biodynamic wines, sommelier Shebnem Ince (MK, Blackbird, The Gage) and mixologist Clint Rogers crafted a wine cocktail program that’ll knock your nylons off.
Start with Ince’s favorite, kir royale, mixed with your choice of liquor (peach, raspberry, or myrtle berry — a dark Italian fruit). Move on to the Henri Presse, a sidecar made with Pineau (a blend of cognac and unfermented grape juice that tastes like caramel and orange). The drinks aren’t insanely strong, so end with Charles Heintz’s small-batch chardonnay (Ince swears by it). Then ditch the guy and go home to your DVR.
Henri, 18 South Michigan Avenue, between Monroe and Madison Streets (312-578-0763 or henrichicago.com).
