Group dinners are always a hassle. Some restos won’t split checks; others won’t let you BYO if they have a bar. And plate-sharing fees? Please. Tack on your math anxiety, and what’s supposed to be a fun night out becomes a distress test.
Unless your next dinner with friends is at Cumin. Wicker Park’s newest (and only) Indian/Nepalese restaurant couldn’t be homier if your home came with impeccable service and outstanding, hearty food.
Call in advance and explain what you’ve got going on. Anniversary? BYO champagne (there’s a $10 corkage fee). Birthday? BYO cake (the resto supplies candles and plates it with a smattering of chocolate sauce).
Place your group’s order in advance so no one has to worry about the bill (this food is made for sharing). Then dig into steaming garlic- and onion-flecked naan; chicken momo (traditional Nepalese dumplings); thick, creamy dal; and crispy samosas that — dare we say — make Devon a distant memory.
