Foodies are all abuzz about Davanti Enoteca, a rustic new spot in Little Italy. And with good reason: Helmed by chef Jonathan Beatty (The Purple Pig), it’s part delicioso ristorante, part wineshop. Swing by for a snack and sip or pick up a bottle to go.

We asked Beatty to match a few of Davanti’s pours with his dishes. We’re hungry just reading about them.

Antipasti: Wash down inventive starter celery, white anchovies, pecorino sardo, and Leccini olives with a glass of 2008 Sella & Mosca la Cala vermentino, an acidic, medium-bodied white that balances the bold flavors on your plate.

Boards: The 2008 La Braccesca Rosso di Montepulciano Sabazio is from a region in Tuscany renowned for its tasty meat (think wild boar). Beatty’s deeply rich, pork cheek-flecked mascarpone polenta cleans up nicely with the wine’s acidity.

Paste: After cutting into the uovo in raviolo San Domenico (a giant ravioli stuffed with ricotta, egg, and spinach), tip back a glass of 2009 Au Bon Climat chardonnay to mirror the richness.

Pizze: A light, simple pizza con prosciutto e rucola (prosciutto di Parma, fontina, arugula, fresh mozzarella) deserves a wine of equal simplicity and weight — tannin-free 2007 Vignamaggio Il Morino sangiovese.

Piatti: According to Davanti’s staff, one of the best pairings in the house goes to the spada Davanti (swordfish, Brussels sprouts, pancetta, Calabrian chili) and 2009 Terredora di Paolo Falanghina. The wine is nutty with some minerality, but its fruitiness is what makes the Brussels sprouts and pancetta really pop.
