Beer and Dessert in One at Public House

Regal Mindy Segal's New Dessert Menu

brioche bread pudding!

Two weeks into the New Year and you’ve yet to screw up. Until now.

Blame Mindy Segal. She’s responsible for the dessert menu at Public House, a resto/bar that opened yesterday in River North. Teaming up with old pal/chef David Blonsky, Segal crafts beer-friendly delicacies to end your meal.

Beer Float
Left Hand Brewing Co. Milk Stout comes with a scoop of triple-vanilla bean ice cream, topped with a warm chocolate chip/salted pretzel cookie. (Blonsky rebakes his in-house pretzels ’til crisp.)

Brioche Bread Pudding
Segal claims gingersnap and beer are a match made in heaven. Her cast-iron version is smothered with warm butterscotch sauce and toffee whipped cream. Blonsky pairs it with Chimay.

Pizzelles
Playing on beer hall waffles, Segal creates wafer cookies using sourdough and graham cracker batter for a yeasty flavor. They’re layered with smoked banana ice cream, chocolate sauce, and homemade marshmallows. Wash them down with a Brooklyn Winter Ale.

The best part? You’re invited to a free tasting. Sweet.

Public House, 400 North State Street, at Kinzie Street (312-265-1240). Free tasting, January 18, 6-8 p.m. R.S.V.P. to events@zapwater.com.
