The last time you saw something bloom in Chicago, Clinton was president (well, it feels like it).
Behold — there’s new growth in your midst: Fleur de Lis flower shop in River North quietly opened this weekend. The sunny storefront is just what this dreary, slush-filled city ordered.
Colorful buds drink from high glass vases; owner Connie Rigas and her niece, floral designer Danielle Wisdom, fly about, their excitement palpable. The duo has an arty background: Rigas creates window displays for high-end retailers; Wisdom has twelve years of experience in the flower biz.
If you’re into carnations, this ain’t the place. Fleur stocks seasonal blossoms — local when possible — like lilies, hydrangeas, ranunculus, amaryllis, and peonies. Wisdom builds custom bouquets for your home or event and hopes to teach arrangement classes in the near future. Try to control your impatiens.
