If you’re susceptible to peer pressure, beware: Chef Homaro Cantu (Moto) will take advantage.
At his new restaurant, ING (Imagining New Gastronomy), Cantu and executive chef Thomas Bowman dedicate an entire table to the miracle berry, an African fruit that makes sour and bitter foods taste sweet. In other words, it’s a tongue trip.
Lemons taste like lemonade; soda water is reminiscent of Sprite; sour cream, cheesecake. The berry makes grass taste like tarragon (Cantu knows from experience), so don’t be surprised to see a plateful of lawn.
If you’re not into trips, stick to the regular menu, which consists of Asian-inspired food using techniques both ancient (Chinese hand-pulled noodles) and futuristic (soy cotton candy). Nano-brewed beers (brewed in five-gallon batches) include a coffee donut stout.
There’s also a pay-by-the-hour option. Tell Bowman how much time you have, and he’ll stuff you silly ’til curfew. You’ve gotta eat it to believe it.
