A Play Table Built to Last

Table Tots from CounterEvolution

table tots from counterevolution!

We ran the numbers: You could spend $1,000 on a crib and $500 on a mattress only to move your little beanstalk into a toddler bed before he’s 3.

Or you could take that $1,500 and spend it on Table Tots, a convertible, boothlike activity table that goes from scribble space to homework station in seconds.

The first piece of children’s furniture from Brooklyn-based design studio CounterEvolution comfortably entertains little ones from 18 months to 6 years old when it’s upright. Flip it on its side and remove the tabletop, and you’ve got a sturdy desk that will last far beyond elementary school.

In terms of sustainability, Table Tots hits the jackpot. It’s handcrafted from heart pinewood salvaged from old bowling lanes and coated in an earth-friendly, zero-VOC stain that’s nontoxic and scratch resistant. Plus, its sleek lines mesh with grown-up decor, so you can repurpose the piece (media stand, bookcase, side table) once its child-rearing days are over.

We’d bet the house on it.
