It’s a bird! It’s a plane!
Nope. It’s an armadillo with airplane wings, drawn by local artist Lucy Engelman.
In the northern burbs of Chicago, the recent University of Michigan grad spins fantasies into fanciful works of art for Edible, Redmoon Theater, and beyond. Noneditorial work includes watercolor and pen-drawn prints for your home.
A childhood filled with adventures to farms, national parks, and nature preserves instilled in her a deep love of all things outdoors.
Her Hybrid Animal series includes work from her senior thesis: doggie steam engines, buffalo telephone poles, sheep adorned with parachutes.
Engelman’s latest collection, Bird-Tree-Flower (pictured), pays homage to each state’s identity (she’s through C and counting).
She does custom work, too (think wedding invites).
There’s a reason we’re drawn to her.
