Scout Design Studio Opens in the Design District

Your new favorite source for midcentury modern

scout design studio!

You idolize Mary McDonald, treat Elle Decor like the Bible, and consider Hollywood Regency a religion.

And at Scout, you’ll hear angels sing.

The new Howell Street boutique just quietly opened by appointment only (its big debut is tentatively on the books for early September).

Sister owners Tiffany Taylor Lapidus and Brittany Taylor transformed the 14,000-square-foot Design District warehouse into an easy-to-navigate showroom with enough midcentury modern and ’60s glam furniture, lighting, and art to make even Saint Peter sit up and take notice. Expect tufted sofas and low-slung chairs, vintage bar carts, bamboo bedside tables, and funky brass elephant bookends.

Unlike its retail neighbors, Scout’s stuff is ready to take home, seldom needing a face-lift or upholstery job (although both services are offered). Prices are fair — or for the thirtysomething nester building her collection, Lapidus says — with a Henredon coffee table at $495 and most accessories less than $100.

Praise the Lord.
