Summary: An elevated modern American restaurant opening today in the Castro.
Characters: Chef/co-owner Jon Hearnsberger (Anchor Oyster Bar), interior designer Craige Walters.
Setting: Roald Dahl by way of Kelly Wearstler. Dramatic tangerine antler chandeliers, playful animal sketches (pictured), and reclaimed wood wallpaper turn the tables on traditional dining room decor. This summer head outdoors to the remodeled patio, home to a back bar and garden.
Plot: Begin with the savory pancetta and quince tart with creamed leeks and champagne vinaigrette. Get to the meat of the story with all-American pot roast (cabernet wine sauce, Parmesan popover) or juicy pork chop (cumquat-riesling reduction, farro risotto). Bittersweet chocolate mousse, with caramel whipped cream and chipotle sea salt, ensures a very happy ending.
Aesop to it.
Fable, 558 Castro Street, between 18th and 19th Streets (415-590-2404).
