The Weekend Guide

the pin show!

Pick a hobby. Any hobby.

The Pin Show
More than twenty independent designers from Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and Louisiana showcase their clothing, jewelry, handbags, and other new fashions for the city’s critical masses.
Why: Just six looks from each designer mean you’ll never get bored. Runway music by DJ Hammertimez means the models won’t, either.
When: Sat. Doors, 6:30 p.m.; show, 8 p.m.
Where: The Goodyear Plant, 960 Dragon St. Tickets ($20 and up) at eventbrite.com.

The Download

What: The top sixteen things to do on the Internet this week.
Why: Investigate clues to True Detective, get the coolest no-hands camera app, and hear our favorite new songbird on the rise.
When: Now’s good.
Where: At dailycandy.com.

The Drunken Botanist Lecture
New York Times best-selling author Amy Stewart talks about the plants we like to distill, ferment, and imbibe; and she divulges some of the best ways to drink a flower.
Why: It’s like storytelling for grown-ups and the main character is a stiff cocktail.

Where: Dallas Arboretum, 8525 Garland Rd. (214-515-6540). Tickets ($40) at dallasarboretum.org.

Vermicomposting Class
Follow Texas Worm Ranch’s Heather Rinaldi as she leads a group through constructing and caring for worm bins. Learn to use castings for organic gardening and landscaping.

Lighter at Meso Maya
The traditional Mexican restaurant has added healthier options to its menu, such as Herradura salmon with charred Brussels sprouts and pollo natural.
Why: If you protein-load and finish your veggies, you’re entitled to the Oaxacan dark chocolate cake with fresh corn ice cream (whole kernels = unexpectedly awesome) for dessert.
When: Mon.-Thurs. & Sun., 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Fri. & Sat., 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
