Fairy tales? You gave up on those a long time ago.

Take Snow White. She was screwed the minute she hooked up with those workaholic dwarves. Relying on an all-male conglomerate to run your life is never a good way to go.

A more modern-day happy ending: the story of Sarah Briggs, who turned down a high-profile job with an upscale retailer to pursue her dream of making jewelry.

Her sock-it-to-the-man line (ranging from $42 to $116) features four collections: Downtown, with 14-karat gold-filled chandelier earrings and stones like black onyx and blue quartz marquise; Uptown, full of rings and earrings made with clusters of gold, black, and white freshwater pearls; Vintage, a collection of earrings using colorful Swarovski crystals; and Monaco, pieces fashioned from wood, tiger ebony, pearls, and coconut spikes.

No question about it: Briggs’s designs will make you feel like a princess.

No knight in shining armor required.
