It’s tough to keep a low profile these days.
Especially if you’re the hot new resto in town.
But Kitchen 1924 is doing its darndest. The new restaurant, whose name hints only at the address and what you’ll find inside, prides itself on being strictly low-key.
Which means you won’t find any velvet ropes, fancy themes, or strobe lights. Just a wide-open kitchen, a wood-burning oven, and simple black-and-white decor including communal dining tables made from recycled bowling alley lanes (talk about humble).
The seasonal menu is planned at the whim of the weather and customers’ tastes, so don’t expect the same items week after week. But for now, order chicken broth at the beginning of every meal, then move on to down-home dishes like the Coca-Cola braised pork carnitas, deep-fried turkey sandwiches, or glazed carrots with cipollini onions. It’s the kind of comfort food that’s sure to bring this kitchen to everyone’s attention.
Guess it’ll just have to accept its fate.
