Last time we checked, looking for footwear to make your friends jealous did not qualify as a full-time job.

Which means quitting your current position so you can spend more time one-upping them does not make you eligible for unemployment.

But it does mean you qualify to reap the benefits of Rocío Ildemaro’s bespoke boots. First she takes at least nine measurements of each foot. Next you tell her the heel height and material (leather, exotic skins, or your old favorite coat).

Then Ildemaro asks for the lowdown on your most and least comfortable shoes. Once every issue’s resolved, she designs a pattern.

Prices for a pair of her handmade, one-of-a-kind creations start around $800, but the real problem is waiting up to twelve weeks to make your friends green with envy.
