Your tendency to deliver punch lines too early or too late has friends calling you Borat (how original). And why does the perfect witty remark always come to mind after you’ve left the party?
The jerk store hasn’t called looking for you (yet), but you might want to give Improv Yourself’s Carey Kane a ring. Kane studied with The New Actors Workshop in New York and says improv acting is like meditation because of its emphasis on the present.
Students start at the beginner level, taking weekly, small-group classes for six to eight weeks. They then move up to intermediate and advanced levels; some even go on to join the Chasing Tales comedy troupe.
Throughout the three-hour sessions, Kane shares tips — like how to slow down and take back the power — that’ll help not only your budding comedic career but your offstage experiences as well.
She’ll also gladly put you in touch with Lorne Michaels.
Not.
Improv Yourself is held at The Wallflower Gallery, 10 Northeast Third Street (305-579-0069 or wallflowergallery.com). To contact Kane, e-mail careylauren@hotmail.com.
