"In This Way I Was Saved," by Brian DeLeeuw

Moderator: Welcome to Imaginary Friends Anonymous. Let’s introduce ourselves.

Attendee No. 1: I’m Barry, and I brought my fire-breathing, dragon-slayer girlfriend, Bambi.

Moderator: (Shakes an invisible hand.) Nice to meet … never mind.

Attendee No. 2: I’m Luke Nightingale, here with my pal Daniel. We’re characters in Brian DeLeeuw’s debut novel, In This Way I Was Saved.

Moderator: And it’s a dark thriller tracing your life from a broken home in childhood through college?

Luke: More than that, it’s a story about how we use imagination to escape pain. But Daniel doesn’t always help. He made me shoplift, take drugs, and desert my mom.

Moderator: You don’t tell him to get lost?

Luke: He’s more than an imaginary friend. He’s a shadow self that controls my mind — and I’m afraid of what he might do next.

Moderator: Sounds creepy.

Luke: Yep. Reality bites.

Available online at amazon.com or at your local bookstore.
