Uptown Makeup Shop Opens

For the past three months, “cover up” has translated to forgiving caftans and ginormous Chloé shades.

Don’t be left in the dark: Uptown Makeup is now open.

The small specialty cosmetics and bath shop is owned and operated by Laura Bush (as in L. Bartlett, not First Lady). She promises no pesky sales pitches or spritzing shoppers with jasmine-tuberose-honey.

Instead, the vibe is relaxed and do it yourself. Feel free to dig into the Smashbox eye shadow or bottles of Phyto hair care. Scent junkies, don’t miss creamy soaps and lotions from local label Niven Morgan or Kai and Pacifica fragrances.

If you do want advice from Bush, she recommends the organic nail lacquer from Priti. She and her staff also offer free makeovers if you’re game.

Might be a bright idea.
