Sure, meat pies sound about as appetizing as cheese smoothies.
But don’t knock ’em till you try Boomerang’s.
The Austin-based company makes flaky handheld pastries filled with meats (chicken, steak) and vegetables (peas, carrots, mushrooms, spinach) with no trans fat, artificial flavors, MSG, or preservatives.
Owner Jack Fennell created the filling little hot pockets after the traditional Aussie meat pie, which he fell for while living in Sydney. Boomerang’s puts a twist on things with unique flavors like Guinness steak and potato, Thai chicken, and curry veggie.
To prepare, just place unwrapped pies in the microwave or oven (recommended for crispy lovers) and heat for five to twenty minutes.
The savories start at less than 400 calories (that’s you, Southwest veggie), so they’re good and good for you.
And we’re not ones to mince words.
