The tents at Bryant Park are anything but Zen, but as we sat and watched designer Tia Cibani’s Ports 1961 spring collection glide down the aisle we couldn’t help but feel anything but. Soothing music and calming visuals took us to our happy place as we watched the Japanese-inspired collection come to life.
Wide sleeves and belts mimicked traditional kimonos, while masterful fabric folding looked origamiesque. Models strutted the double runway in geometric spiked heels (stand down Lady GaGa) that were a stunning contrast to the ethereal garments. The lustrous tunics and sheer, puckered, elbow-length gloves were jaw-dropping, but the bowl haircuts and bright red eye shadow? A little much for our taste.
Will all spring fashion be so pretty and delicate? We’ll ponder that in the garden and get right back to you.
