Politics is serious stuff — until party antics steal the spotlight.
Contributing to the chaos: Bunga Bunga, a lively pizzeria, bar and karaoke joint opening tomorrow in Battersea. Co-founders Duncan Stirling and Charlie Gilkes (Maggie’s, Barts) named the spot after the Italian prime minister’s infamous X-rated parties.
Tabloid newspaper cuttings and kitsch souvenirs cover the walls. There’s a bar shaped like a gondola, a bicycle hangs from the ceiling, Vespa helmets are used as lamps, and Italian-language tapes play in the toilets. Get the party started by sharing cocktails served in a china horse’s head and keep it going with flamethrowers, opera singers and a cheesy Euro DJ. Expect classics like bruschetta, cured meats and a variety of metre-long pizza named after Silvio’s underage girls.
Upstairs you’ll find a private dining room for 30 and an event space for 150, complete with bar, karaoke stage and fancy dress box.
A Berlusconi-inspired political statement? Nah. Just some funny business.
