Recent (nondenominational) prayers we’ve had answered: double-duty denim, a workout we actually enjoy, and art that doesn’t break the bank.
Rejoice over our latest heavenly discovery: the Secret Goldfish Baking Co.
The brainchild of Molly Greenwood and Michael Mapel, the vegan-friendly label was inspired by the lack of accessibly priced artisanal baked goods. Selling breads and more made fresh with the finest ingredients (fair trade spices, organic produce, nonhydrogenated margarine), it’s now at local farmers markets (or call in a custom order).
Shout hallelujah for the whole wheat and oat loaf, coated with sweet agave and toasted rolled oats. And the rosemary and kalamata olive boule, made with juicy marinated olives from Adam’s Ranch, is worthy of devout worship.
As for the selection of sinfully delicious sweet stuff — gluten-free double chocolate muffins, snickerdoodles, pumpkin bread?
They’ve led us into temptation.
Available Sundays, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at Santa Monica Farmers Market, 2640 Main Street, between Hill Street and Ocean Park Boulevard; Wednesdays, noon-6 p.m., LAMC Farmers Market at Barnsdall Art Park, 4800 Hollywood Boulevard, at North Vermont Avenue, $6 per loaf.
