Sweet Cheeks Heats Up the BBQ Scene

Deep in the Heart of Fenway

sweet cheeks!

Most restaurants create an initial splash before settling into the scene. But every so often, a new spot turns said scene on its head and serves it with a side of white trash fruit salad.

Sweet Cheeks, from Top Chef season one runner-up Tiffani Faison (formerly of Rocca), gives Boston a taste of Texan pit work. Five reasons we’ve already booked our return:

1. Tootsie
That’s Faison’s customized smoker, a 4,700-pound, oak-powered behemoth churning out fork-tender pork ribs, brisket, turkey legs, and pulled chicken. Its namesake? Seventy-eight-year-old Longhorn barbecue matriarch Tootsie Tomanetz.

2. Liquid Patriotism
Every drink, from canned beer to moonshine (yes, moonshine), is made in the good ol’ USA.

3. Size Matters
When’s the last time you ordered black-eyed peas by the scoop and pork belly by the pound?

4. Plating
Or lack thereof. Instead, eat off a metal tray covered with butcher paper.

5. Sustainable Mention
Tables fashioned from old church doors and bowling alley lanes, sweet tea served in recycled Mason jars, and oil cans that double as wall decor. It’s green living without grandstanding.

Consider us stoked.
