Your idea of a gamble is buying off-brand detergent.
When it comes to your food, you’re even more risk averse. So rather than play the odds, head to Atwater Village Farm, opening Friday.
The new corner grocer sources produce, meat, and grains from a local network of organically minded farmers (Windrose Farm, One Gun Ranch) and artisans (Lemon Bird Handmade Jams). For prepackaged foods, owner Piper Goldstein goes further afield, culling fine gourmet fare (French violet mustard, Swedish chocolates) from around the globe.
A former rock concert tour chef who came home to roost, Goldstein aims to make her old-timey store (checkerboard tiling, vintage bric-a-brac) a community gathering space. To wit, she plans to host a happy hour and launch an educational program for neighborhood schools and organizations.
And for those short on shopping time, produce basket subscriptions are in the works.
So bet (on) the farm.
