The Pose Knows

Yogi Beans Studio for Kids

yogi beans!

As soon as their babies start babbling, most moms spend their days repeating one sound: “ma.” But not you, earth mother. You’ve got your little Zen dumpling practicing “om.”

So we asked the folks at newly opened Yogi Beans for some useful poses to get your little started at home. Namaste.

For Babies: Criss-Cross
This pose incorporates balance and cross-lateral movements, which encourage whole-brain learning. Begin with your baby lying on her back or seated facing you. Gently bring her right arm over to the left knee. Hold this position for three to five seconds; repeat three to five times. Then switch sides.

For Toddlers: Mouse
A restorative and calming pose that’s perfect for bedtime, it can be incorporated into your routine to promote healthy sleep habits. Have your little come to his knees and sit back on his heels. Next ask him to bend forward, bring his forehead to the floor, and allow his belly to rest on his thighs. Gently place your hands on his back and ask him to take a few deep breaths.

For Preschoolers: Cat and Cow
These poses help wake up your noodle’s body after a peaceful night’s rest. Have your child begin on all fours, with her hands under her shoulders and her knees under her hips. For Cat pose, instruct her to round her back like a scared cat on Halloween, look at her belly button, and let out a meow. For Cow pose, allow the belly to drop to the floor, look up to the sky, and let out a moo.
