House hunting entails an exhausting litany of questions: How many bedrooms? Is that a bidet? What’s this about a poltergeist?
For a reprieve, hone in on Duplex, West Third Street’s newest culinary resident.
Kitted out like a country manor (fireplace, library walls, wingback chairs), the stately space has a ficus-festooned patio, airy dining room, and a business meeting-friendly bar. Upstairs, a sitting area and second dining room emanate a louche ’70s vibe (shag carpets, smoky mirrors).
Chef Lauren Cartmel (Polo Lounge) welcomes guests with farm-to-table fare (sunchoke flatbread, eggplant agnolotti, lamb shank with bean ragu). Desserts (saffron and pistachio ice cream, ricotta cheesecake) come courtesy of pastry chef Vanessa DiStefano.
Specialty drinks like Midnight Tea (Earl Grey-infused gin, lemon juice, agave) and Guns ’n’ Roses (gin, Campari, grapefruit juice) are decadence in a cocktail glass.
This place goes abode and beyond.
Duplex, 8722 West Third Street, between South George Burns Road and Arnaz Drive, Mid-City (310-276-6223 or duplexonthird.com).
