Our hills are normally alive into the wee hours, but one in particular is really rocking now that a bustling new Bavarian moved in.
Meet your noisy Capitol Hill neighbor, Von Trapp’s, officially open for beer, brats, and bocce.
Housed in a former candy factory, Von Trapp’s delivers on the German bier hall promise with authentic touches — a fireside den complete with elk head and colossal fireplace, soaring ceilings, sparkling vintage chandeliers, and dozens of tall wooden tables and benches. A grand staircase leads to one of two mezzanines overlooking five indoor bocce ball courts.
Order from a selection of hearty sausages, including Polish kielbasa, bratwurst, and cheddarwurst, plus sauerkraut, pretzels, mustards, and goulash that are worth the mess. Wash it down with a brew-based cocktail such as an Edelweiss Punch — a potent mix of rum, apricot brandy, Meletti amaro, pineapple, lime, wheat beer, and nutmeg — or one of 100 beers.
Buzzing from all the excitement? Channel your energy into a few rounds of bocce (rumor has it that a league is in the works).
And let the good times roll.
