Q&A: Man Behind the Blog

We made a date with Dapper Lou

dapper lou!

On a scale of style to schlep, most seasoned street fashion photographers choose extremes of the former (matching one’s DSLR case to one’s trendy/hazardous footwear) or the latter (a fanny pack stuffed with backup camera batteries and lenses).

Then there’s Dapper Lou. The Brooklyn-based blogger, editor, and stylist has logged hours behind the scenes for Barneys New York, Essence, and Nike, but his personal style keeps him as popular in front of peers’ cameras as on their Google readers. Read on for how he keeps it all together.

Name: Lougè Delcy

Occupation: Men’s style documenter

Neighborhood: Bed-Stuy, New York

What’s the first thing you put on each day?
Shoes. Wingtips are my go-to, but lately I’ve been into the loafer/sneaker concept. It’s practical for all the running around I do. Especially when chasing subjects to get the perfect shot!

What music do you get dressed to for a day out shooting?
Two Door Cinema Club.

For a night out on the town?
Stromae.

For a date?
Lana Del Rey.

Do you have a good luck article of clothing?
Not so much good luck, but shoes and hats are my favorite.

If you had to be reincarnated as an article of clothing, what would it be?
Um, wow, I don’t know to answer that question.

What’s always a bad idea to eat when you’re trying to look good?
Pasta.

What style advice would you give your past and future self?
Keep it effortless, simple, and classic, and you’ll have no regrets.

What new designers are you into these days?
Bo Clothing, Pyer Moss, and MEI New York.

If pressed, what woman would you allow to dress you for the rest of your life?
Patricia Field. No matter how downtown my look is, she’d always add a little sophistication. More importantly, she’d keep it very New York.

V-Day is over. What’s the one gift someone could leave on your doorstep and know you’d always wear?
A great watch. I never leave home without one and sometimes pack two by accident. True story.

What’s been your most popular post?
My Paris Fashion Week post. It’s Paris — whats not to love?

What’s next?
Design.

This way to more chats, tips, and sartorial sound bites from dozens of tastemakers from coast to coast.
