In-between-season dressing doesn’t often yield fashionable fruit.
But Sarah Leslie Richards has a knack for reaping what she sows.
Strong roots — she’s worked with Proenza Schouler, Diane von Furstenberg, and Doo.Ri — helped lay the groundwork for her eponymous clothing line, Richards.
With lush motifs and exaggerated renderings of overgrown shrubbery, the pieces are reminiscent of paintings: a boxy, cropped summer blouse dyed to look like a misty mountain range; a vivid English garden splashed across sleeveless button-down; a wildly patterned blue dress with a flashy green collar.
Richards’s airy, split-up-the-back dolman blouses unfurl to reveal watery ocean scenes and digitized, deco-style jungle prints.
