The New Mac Daddy

You have the souped-up, sleekest silver Palm Pilot. That tiny Motorola Vader cell phone is umbilically connected to your waist. The Canon Digital Elph goes with you to every party.

But your laptop? It’s—quelle horreur—a mousy sort of slate. (We won’t even get into that thing you carry it around in.)

Leave it to Apple to remedy such an embarrassing situation with—what else—but the new Titanium PowerBook G4 , the first notebook computer designed with 99.5-percent-titanium. The adorable thing is compact, lightweight (5.3 pounds), and 1 inch thick. But don’t be fooled by its size—it’s a heavyweight in an ultralight body. It’s stocked with DVD and CD slots, a quicksilver modem, and 30 gigabytes of drive space.

But here’s the hitch: Apple is being all secretive about the release date, and there’s already a waitlist. So get in line, buddy. (If, that is, you can afford the thing.)

What we want to know is, how long till the Frank Gehry limited edition hits MoMA?
