Today’s J.Crew reminds me of the ’90s-era Chicago Bulls. Or perhaps Béy-Z. It’s riding at the top, raking it in, and not waiting around for other brands, large or small, to catch up. We’ve become programmed to love the reign of MJ Jenna Lyons, and thanks to designer Tom Mora’s sharp-as-nails color, texture, and pattern mixing, I’m perfectly happy to root for the powerhouse. You can’t beat a sexy-comfortable outfit that does the work for you (and millions of girls next door). The spring presentation at Lincoln Center was a frenzy. Here’s what I loved. 1. Pointed ladylike pumps in an explosion of prints and metallics. Looked great with bare legs, even better with contrasting pants. J.Crew’s not messing with those basic accessories. 2. Aloha, continued use of printed separates (tropical florals, stripes) worn head to toe, graphic tees and sweatshirts (waves, très bien spelled in palm trees), and track/pajama pants. 3. The male models in blue sweaters. Where do I get in line? Mind if I slip into something more comfortable while I wait? There’s a pair of sequined hibiscus-print pants with my name on them. 4. Pops of cobalt, highlighter yellow, pea green, and coral. 5. White ruffled skirts, crocheted dresses, and laser-cut tees. Bring back summer. For more information, go to jcrew.com.
