Must-Have Makeup Brushes

Three tools our beauty editor can’t live without

In my world, Sunday fun day means excavating the contents of my bathroom. It also means waking up Monday morning to find about 78 percent of my extensive brush collection MIA.

First thought: Good riddance. Who needs three tools dedicated to the eyelid crease? Second thought: I do. Luckily, I rescued a few implements from the giveaway pile. Here’s what made the cut.

Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush
“Life-changing” might sound dramatic when it comes to a simple foundation brush ($25). But the first time I buffed away my fine lines — and one pesky forehead wrinkle — with these dense, dome-shaped bristles, I looked five years younger. And that’s a conservative estimate.

Make Up For Ever Angled Eyeliner Brush
I use this classic shape for everything from drawing cat eyes to filling in brows (and lining lips if I’m traveling light). Make Up For Ever’s wood-handle version ($24) has a flexible yet firm tip that is equally effective at bending to form thick lines or seal whisker-thin swipes.

Becca The One Perfecting Brush
The novelty still hasn’t worn off: one tool for every step of my routine, sans washing in between. On days I can’t be bothered to dig around in my bag, I reach for this wide, goat hair multitasker ($49). It blends primer, BB cream, blush, and bronzer (I draw the line at lipstick) in all the right spots — without streaks or misplaced colors.
