Last-Minute Gifts That Save Face

Homemade face scrub and beard oil recipes for late shoppers

Procrastination is your passion. First runner-up: kitchen crafts.

Put both skills to good use courtesy of last-minute gift ideas for her (face scrub) and him (beard oil) from Adina Grigore, founder of all-natural skin care line S.W. Basics. The recipes call for several of the same ingredients and only take about an hour to make.

You’re practically done early this year.

Minty Face Scrub

Fresh peppermint or contents of two peppermint tea bags
4-8 tbsp. sweet almond oil
4-8 tbsp. jojoba oil
4-8 tbsp. olive oil
8 tbsp. unscented castile liquid soap
1-2 tbsp. ground oats
Coconut milk (optional)

1. Chop peppermint or open tea bags and place leaves in a pot with 2-4 tbsp. of each oil (or pick one and triple the measurement).

2. Heat on low for 5-30 minutes. The longer you cook it, the mintier it smells.

3. Allow oils to cool. Combine with gentle castile soap.

4. Pour mixture into a glass jar. Add ground oats.

5. Top off with coconut milk. Stir well before using. Use once or twice a week. Store up to one month.

Beard Oil

2 tbsp. sweet almond oil
2 tbsp. jojoba oil
2 tbsp. olive oil
Various essential oils (rosewood, bergamot, black pepper, cedarwood)

1. In a jar with a lid, combine 2 tbsp. of each oil.

2. Add 5-15 drops of each essential oil until you reach your desired scent.

3. Shake well, then apply to washed beard. Leave in to soften hair. Store for up to one year.
